Area Students Competed in the Annual Biomedical Competition

It was check-up time for the Patriots on February 7, 2011! The U.S. National Institutes of Health and four of their institutes, National Library of Medicine, NIH Office of Communications and Public Liaison, NIH Office of Science Education, and National Human Genome Research Institute, sponsored the Patriots 2nd Annual Biomedical Competition.  Their goal was to encourage students to further their interest in various medical fields.

We had students from Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC participating in the competition, and 10 medical professionals to serve as judges.  We also had 10 future doctors from Georgetown University Medical Center to give our guests a pre-doctor check up.  Each team was required to present a five-page research paper, brochure, slide show presentation, one-page web site, display board, and an oral presentation on one of the pre-selected medical careers.

Montgomery County Map of Snow Plow Process

DOT crews worked overnight clearing Emergency Roads. At present all Emergency Roads are open and cleared full-width with exception of isolated areas of abandoned vehicles. Even though Emergency Roads are cleared, many areas exhibit isolated icy spots; therefore extreme caution must be exercised.

Crews mobilized to Secondary neighborhood streets and are clearing Secondary streets best characterized as snow covered and hard packed. This phase of the snow clearing operation can be tracked on the Snow Map. Plow crews will immediately move into neighborhood plowing operations immediately following plowing of Secondary roads.
