Civil War Bus Tour

There is still room on the bus for the Civil War tour on Saturday September 18.

Traveling by comfortable motor coach and guided by Sharon Holt, Museum director and  Civil War historian, Museum members will explore the importance of railroad and canal transport on the local economy, visit Harper's Ferry, scene of John Brown's raid as well as the skirmish that helped turn the tide for the Union at Antietam, and then arrive at the Antietam battlefield.  There, we will enjoy a customized tour of Antietam led by staff from Frederick's National Museum of Civil War Medicine.  We will then journey to Frederick for a reception, dinner, and entertainment in the Medicine museum's historic building, before returning to Sandy Spring.

Children’s Day at Farmer’s Market

The annual Children’s  Day at the Olney Farmer’s and Artist’s Market will be held Sunday, August 22.

Special guest , local nutritionist Isabel Maples will take children shopping at the Market and teach them all about local produce and other healthy foods sold at the Market.  Isabel will then do a hands-on Chef demonstration, and the children will sample lots of delicious, healthy food.

There is a fee of $5.00, but those who are registered will be eligible for door prizes; some including a $10.00 shopping spree at the market. There will also be a Children’s Tea party that day, along with Children’s Music and storytelling.

Margulies’s Pulitzer Prize Winning 'Dinner With Friends' Comes to Olney

Donald Margulie’s famous play Dinner With Friends is coming to the Olney Theater Center August 26 through September 26. 

The story, which focuses on divorce, middle age, and the insecurities people face during changing times in their lives, is an theater favorite that plays on audience’s emotions.

The cast includes beloved Olney Theater actors Julie-Ann Elliott, Paul Morella, Jeffries Thaiss, and Peggy Yates.

Have Fun at the 2010 Montgomery Country Fair and Help Feed the Hungry While Doing It

The 2010 Montgomery County Agricultural Fair will be held in Gaithersburg, MD from August 13 to 21.

Choose from over 40 carnival rides; participate in BINGO, cake auctions, and dance contests; and eat as many funnel cakes and snow cones your stomach can handle.

General admission is $10.00 per person while children 11 and under are free.  Parking is $5.00 per vehicle.

And please don’t forget to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Countrywide Food Drive benefitting the Manna Food Center.  Your canned food donations will help provide food to neighbors in need.
